Garrelts Named Good Samaritan’s Caring Kind

Deb Garrelts was recently honored with the 2023 Caring Kind Award for CHI Health Good Samaritan. Recipients of the annual award go above-and-beyond to exemplify caring, compassion and service excellence shown to patients, coworkers and the community.

Garrelts, a nurse in the hospital’s maternity center, was presented with the honor by Good Samaritan President Curt Coleman. She was selected from nominations submitted by hospital staff.

As Good Samaritan’s Caring Kind Award winner, Garrelts will represent the hospital at the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) Annual Convention scheduled for later this fall. NHA has paid tribute to more than 2,000 of Nebraska’s most caring and dedicated health care workers since 1979 at the event.

The following is an excerpt from Garrelts’ nomination:

“Deb has been a tremendous asset to the Good Samaritan team for more than 40 years. She demonstrates our core values and mission every day. Everyone knows Deb, and all have kind words to say! Deb absolutely loves what she does and it shows every day.

“Deb gives excellent discharge instructions, and makes sure all patients are ready to go home and does not assume anyone knows things because this is a repeat visit for them. She remembers her patients and they remember her. If that isn’t service excellence, I don’t know what is.”
