Sioux City Physician Dr. Ashlesha Kaushik Receives Special Achievement Award

UnityPoint Health – Sioux City is proud to announce Ashlesha Kaushik, MD, pediatric infectious disease physician, has received a Special Achievement Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for distinguished service and dedication to the mission and goals of the academy. The award was given at the Iowa State Capitol, where she worked on legislative advocacy for children. 

Dr. Kaushik serves as an Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Ambassador for the Iowa Chapter of Project Firstline, which aims to educate all US healthcare workers with the foundational understanding of IPC to protect the nation from infectious disease threats.

“Dr. Kaushik is a wonderful representative of UnityPoint Health,” says Jane Arnold, UnityPoint Health – Sioux City President. “She is an incredible asset to Siouxland. We are lucky to have her knowledge and expertise as she continues to positively impact the quality of care we provide the children in our community.”

Dr. Kaushik has served as an IPC Ambassador for four years and has been invited to participate in several state and national committees related to her work around infectious diseases.

“I am honored to receive this award from the American Academy of Pediatrics and have the opportunity to work with providers nationwide to improve healthcare quality and safety initiatives,” says Dr. Kaushik. “I look forward to providing awareness and education around infection prevention at the local and national level.” 

As the CDC/AAP IPC Ambassador, Dr. Kaushik has been invited to participate as a visiting faculty member at Harvard.
