Avera McKennan DAISY Award Recipients Spring 2022

Erin Bommersbach, BSN, RN, CCRN – Intensive Care Unit

"When I got to the ICU they said they would bring my dad as close as they could so I could see him. I will never be able to explain how much that meant to me and to my dad. My dad had a lot of amazing nurses, but Erin and Sara (nominated below) are the two that I will always remember."

Mindee Olson, BSN, RN, PCCN - Cardio/Pulmonary Unit

"Mindi did everything to find ways to help with comfort without having to even ask her. She always came in with a smile on her face, happy and her presence alone continued to keep me calm and allowed me to rest. I can never thank her enough and I don’t know that she will ever realize or understand the impact that she made on my care in just one day. I am beyond grateful for Mindi.”

Sara Spartz, BSN, RN, CCRN – Intensive Care Unit

“I was blown away by her compassion. Her job that day wasn't to give me one last conversation with my dad, but they put themselves in my shoes and gave me a gift I will never forget. Sara was there the night my dad passed away. She wasn't assigned to him, but she came in to help my family cope with what was happening and answered every question that was asked. Seeing her again brought me more comfort than I can explain with words."
