In recent years, this interactive website has become an increasingly important way for healthcare professionals across the region to stay connected to the news and information they care about. News and events from across South Dakota region and North Dakota are updated in real time. The website includes a healthcare business directory and an a events calendar where site users can post for free.

MED Magazine is mailed directly to licensed physicians, advanced practice providers, and healthcare executives across the South Dakota tri-state region. More than a thousand subscribers receive it digitally. Some of the cities we serve include Sioux Falls, Aberdeen Rapid City, Pierre, Worthington, Dakota Dunes, Sioux City, Norfolk.
In North Dakota, we receive and distribute news electronically from cities such as Bismarck, Fargo, and Grand Forks.
Meet the Team
Steffanie Liston-Holtrop, VP of Sales & MarketingMED's co-founder and VP of Sales & Marketing, Steffanie Liston-Holtrop, has been involved in healthcare marketing and publishing since earning her BA in Business from the University of Sioux Falls. She holds a minor in Mass Communication and Theater with an emphasis in Marketing.
Before taking on the role of publishing for physicians in the region, Liston-Holtrop worked as a marketing consultant for several area medical practices and non-profit agencies, and continues to help promote the American Cancer Society and the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the community. As co-chair of the Young Professionals Network of Sioux Falls, Liston-Holtrop helped launch and grow that organization to more than 500 members in its first year.
In her role as VP of Sales & Marketing at MED, she works closely with the SDMGMA and SDAHO to help promote their member practices and institutions. Liston-Holtrop is a member of the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations and the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce. She and her husband Nate live outside of Sioux Falls with their two children.
Alex Strauss, EditorMED's co-founder and Editor Alex Strauss has spent her entire professional career as a healthcare journalist. The child of a pediatrician, Strauss grew up in Western Maryland and majored in English at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. She holds an MA in Journalism from American University in Washington, DC and worked on Capitol Hill covering healthcare news for television and radio stations nationwide before moving to Sioux Falls more than 20 years ago. During her 13 years at KSFY-TV in Sioux Falls, Strauss pioneered the station's popular Health Matters segment and won numerous awards for her health and medical news coverage.
In 2000, Strauss started the region's first business and lifestyle publication exclusively for physicians and healthcare professionals in the tri-state region and has been publishing for this audience ever since. "It has been utterly amazing to witness the transformation in healthcare in the Sioux Falls region since I moved here," she says. "It is a journalist's dream to be able to immerse herself in a subject about which she is truly passionate."
Strauss and her husband have two adult daughters.
Angela Corbo Gier, Art Director/DesignerMED's designer and art director, Angela Corbo Gier (Corbo Design). is a professional graphic designer originally from Norristown, Pennsylvania. Educated at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, Gier spent 22 years in New York City where she specialized in publication design. On her long list of distinguished clients are Disney, Macmillan, Harper Collins and Viking. "I love being a graphic designer because I have such a wide variety of interests." she says. "Being a part of MED constantly stretches me to come up with new and visually interesting ways to express some complex topics."
Gier has made Sioux Falls her home since 2005. Her husband, Delta David Gier, is Music Director of the South Dakota Symphony.
Alyssa McGinnis, Digital Media Director
Alyssa McGinnis communicates with MED advertisers and prospective advertisers and helps us develop creative and personalized plans for reaching their healthcare clients. (If you advertise with MED you have likely been in contact with Alyssa.) In addition, Alyssa keeps MidwestMedicalEdition.com up-to-date with fresh medical community news and events and helps MED promote them through social media. Ever click on a link in the digital edition of MED? Yep, that is Alyssa’s handiwork, too.
Alyssa studied TV Production at Brown College in Minneapolis. She worked in the broadcasting department at the Minnesota Timberwolves and freelanced as Data Content Manager at Fox Sports North. In Sioux Falls, she was Assistant Marketing Director at Wireless World, a Verizon retailer. Alyssa designs and sells t-shirts and wooden signs on the side.Alyssa has made Sioux Falls her home since 2011. Her and her husband have 3 girls ages 6, 4 and 3.
