Tonya Huhman, a registered nurse with Columbus Community Hospital’s maternal child health department, recently received the hospital’s DAISY Award for the fourth quarter of 2021.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses. CCH is a DAISY Award Partner, and it recognizes one of its nurses with this special honor each quarter.

Huhman was nominated by her three of her co-workers in the maternal child health department: Brittney Wiemer, RN, Stephanie Hartman, RN and Kim Wiese, RN.

In their nomination letter, they wrote, “Tonya is an extraordinary nurse because she is always willing to go above and beyond for her patients to make their birthing experience as great as possible.”

They added that Huhman is a “great team player” who always does what is best for the unit and her co-workers. In particular, they highlighted Huhman’s willingness to pick up extra shifts, and several instances when she stayed several hours past her scheduled shift to help out on busy nights.

“Even if she is told she can leave if she needs to, she always stays to make sure all the patients are well taken care of and all required tasks and jobs are done before she goes home,” they wrote. “She also is always thinking ahead and is always trying to get as many tasks done as possible to make the next person’s shift easier.”

Huhman was honored with an award presentation on Nov. 2.

Patients, visitors, nurses, physicians and staff can nominate a deserving nurse by filling out the “Nurse Nomination Form,” on this page of the CCH website: Nominations that are received after the winner is chosen for that quarter will be considered for the next DAISY Award.
