Essentia Health is excited to team up with a pair of high schools in hosting “pink-out” volleyball nights as a way to raise money — and awareness — for breast cancer.

On Tuesday, Oct. 12, Shanley will host Valley City, with the varsity match scheduled for 7 p.m. Activities will include the selling of pink T-Shirts; a silent auction, featuring as many as 30 items, that begins at 4 the entry area of the activities wing at Shanley, with final bids closing at the start of the second set of the varsity match; a serving competition between the first and second sets of the varsity match in which participants vie for a slice of Spicy Pie pizza or a Jersey Mike’s sub; and a “minute to donate” bucket between the second and third sets.

There also will be a breast cancer informational booth and handouts of pink hand-sanitizers.

A week later, on Oct. 19, Valley City hosts Fargo South, with many of the same activities planned.

Funds raised will support the Cancer Center at Essentia Health-Fargo. Efforts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month support Essentia’s patients throughout the year.

“We count on these dollars to provide our patients struggling during their treatments with gas cards, grocery cards, wigs and hotel stays when needed,” said Susan Omdalen, executive director of the Essentia Health Foundation-West. “Our staff at the Cancer Center work hard to support the needs they see from our patients and work with the foundation to provide these important items. The foundation works really closely with staff to support the Cancer Center in any way we can.”
