Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) honored its August Exceptional Employee of the Month, Sue Hedlund, RT(R) (M) (CT), for her caring attitude and attention to detail.

Hedlund, who has worked as a technologist in HRMC’s radiology department for nearly 41 years was nominated by coworkers to receive the honor. According to the nomination, “Sue recently went above and beyond for a patient, following her intuition to make sure that nothing was missed and potentially saving her life.”

“Her years of experience and vast knowledge caused Sue to follow up on a gut instinct she had when reviewing images from the mammogram she was performing,” the nomination continued. “Sue’s attention to detail and strong intuition, along with her kind and caring ways, are the reasons patients say she provides extraordinary care and service.”

HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to demonstrate the hospital’s values of being accessible, helpful and knowledgeable. Employees can be nominated by other coworkers or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees.

As August exceptional employee, Hedlund, who also received the honor in June 2009, received a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.

Hedlund was born in Minnesota, grew up in Wisconsin and moved to Huron in 1980. She earned an associate degree in Applied Science from the District One Technical Institute in Eau Claire, Wisc. Hedlund has two grown children Chris (Traci) Hedlund of Eau Claire and Laura (Richard) Sentnell of Woonsocket. In her spare time, Hedlund enjoys reading and spending time with family, including her numerous grandchildren.
