Sanford Health Plan has acquired the Great Plains Brokerage unit from Marsh & McLennan Agency. Great Plains Brokerage has served as Sanford Health Plan’s external brokerage service for more than 20 years.

“The team at Great Plains Brokerage have been our trusted partners for years, and we’re looking forward to officially welcoming them into the Sanford Health Plan family,” said John Snyder, president of Sanford Health Plan. “This is an exciting development—and one which will allow us to serve our valued members more efficiently and effectively than ever before.”

There will be no loss of jobs as a result of the acquisition. All former Great Plains Brokerage employees will become Sanford Health Plan’s new sales department. Bringing brokerage services directly into the Sanford Health Plan allows for a more contemporary model for the management of sales – to include broker, agent, and client relations – a model adopted by the majority of health plans today.

“We’re proud to continue the important work we’ve done in partnership with Sanford Health Plan and, now, becoming part of the family,” said Jason Hubers, president of Great Plains Brokerage. “This move will empower us to deliver an outstanding experience for all Sanford Health Plan members.”

Marsh & McLennan Agency’s Sioux Falls operations will continue to serve its clients in Sioux Falls and the region.

“We wish our colleagues well as they transition,” said Steve Vlk, CEO of Marsh & McLennan Agency. “MMA will continue to serve our clients in the Sioux Falls area, the region and beyond, and remains a business committed to the community as we have been for decades.”
