New Pediatrician Joins HRMC Physicians ClinicFeb 05, 2021 10:11AM ● By Med Magazine
Shawn Bartel, MD, a board-certified pediatric and internal medicine physician, has joined the Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) medical staff, according to Erick Larson, president and CEO for HRMC.
Dr. Bartel provides care for newborns to geriatric but has a special love of pediatrics and caring for families. In addition to seeing patients at HRMC Physicians Clinic, Dr. Bartel is available to manage the care of inpatient pediatric patients and newborn care including attending c-sections and stabilization of newborns.
“We are so grateful, Dr. Bartel has returned to his home community to care for patients here,” said Larson. “His commitment to practicing health care and becoming an integral part our family medicine team, not only benefits our hospital and patients, but also our entire community.”
Dr. Bartel graduated from Huron High School before attending the University of South Dakota earning a double major in biology and chemistry. Dr. Bartel holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the USD School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
During residency, Dr. Bartel served as chief medical officer for the 118th Medical Bravo Company in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the Wisconsin National Guard. He began his medical career as an internal medicine and pediatrics physician with Community Memorial Medical Commons in Menomonee Falls, Wisc. In 2014, he returned to South Dakota and cared for patients at Avera Family Practice in Aberdeen.
“I am very excited to be back in Huron,” said Dr. Bartel. “I’ve cared for families in the region for the last six years and I’m looking forward to providing specialized pediatric care to the families here and in the surrounding communities.”
While in Aberdeen, Dr. Bartel was voted 2020 Top Physician and Top Pediatrician by Aberdeen American News readers. He was also recognized as Best Doctors of America for 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. He and his wife, Amanda, have five children ages 8 to 21 years. In his spare time, Dr. Bartel enjoys fishing, hunting, spending time with family and traveling with his wife.
