Bruk Kammerman has been named Senior Vice President/Chief Information Officer for Avera. Bruk (pronounced Brook) will begin his new role Feb. 1.

“This position was a critically important hire for Avera. Our new CIO will have the opportunity to make a significant impact in supporting the strategic priorities of the health system; in particular, to innovate and optimize the delivery of care while guided by Avera’s core values of hospitality, compassion and stewardship,” said Julie Lautt, Avera Chief Financial Officer, who oversees Avera’s Finance and Information Technology divisions.

A key member of the senior leadership team, Bruk will be responsible for creating and delivering on the IT vision and plan that is aligned with Avera’s mission, goals and objectives. He will provide the leadership and management to guide the future direction of IT.

Working with senior leadership, he will have an integral role in enabling a data-driven organization and supporting strategies to improve the consumer experience through the implementation and utilization of digital technology.

“The organization of Avera and its alignment to mission speaks to my soul. My passion is people and building relationships – relationships that matter and relationships that last,” said Bruk.

Having 24 years of experience in IT, Bruk most recently served as Regional Chief Information Officer for MultiCare Health System in Spokane, Wash. Previously, Bruk was with Hospital Corporation of America for over 20 years, serving as Chief Information Officer for the Mountain Division based in Salt Lake City, Utah, for 11 years.

He holds a bachelor of science degree in Business IT Management from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah, and will complete his master of business administration soon.

Avera’s IT department has been awarded numerous times, having been named to Health Care’s Most Wired list 21 times. In 2020, Avera earned the highest level of recognition as a Level 10 organization in the 2020 Digital Health Most Wired Survey conducted by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). Avera was one of only three health systems in the nation eligible for Level 10 status in 2020.

Avera’s IT department is currently implementing the MEDITECH Expanse electronic medical record. Completion of the One AveraChart implementation across Avera will bring benefits for patients and staff, supporting better sharing of clinical best practices, and enhancing accessibility of health information. Bruk brings with him experience with MEDITECH. He succeeds Richard Molseed in his interim position, and before, Jim Veline, who recently retired after a long and successful career in IT.

Bruk and his wife, Jenny, look forward to relocating with their family in Sioux Falls. They have five children, ages 15 to 20, and one son-in-law.
