A cardiac surgeon is joining Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. James Wudel, M.D., will soon begin practice at Sanford Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery Clinic.

Wudel received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and did residency work at Vanderbilt University Hospitals in Nashville, Tennessee. He also completed fellowships at University California San Francisco and Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

“The optimal care of patients with cardiovascular problems relies heavily on a team approach of experts to provide the best outcome for each patient,” said Wudel about his philosophy of care. “Equally important is an individualized focus on the best therapy for you; whether it be standard surgical, less invasive surgical, or a non-surgical therapy.”

Wudel has extensive experience with surgical treatment of abnormalities of the heart and coronary arteries. He has also served as the principal investigator in more than twenty prior cardiovascular clinical trials.
