Allen Returns to HRMC to Lead Patient Services

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is pleased to announce Dawn Allen, RN, has been named Vice President of Patient Services, according to David Dick, president and CEO for HRMC.

Allen, who started her new role on July 6, leads patient services which includes all inpatient and outpatient nursing services, respiratory therapy and rehabilitation services for the hospital. She is responsible for leading the integration and sustainability of safe clinical quality across all patient care settings. Allen will be instrumental in collaborating with staff, providers and patients in order to uphold HRMC’s core values of being accessible, helpful and knowledgeable while delivering exceptional patient-centered care.

“Dawn’s experience and knowledge, along with her familiarity with Huron and our hospital, make her a great addition to our team,” said Dick. “I’m grateful she’s decided to return to her roots and help us deliver quality and compassionate care to our rural community.”

Originally from Huron, Allen holds an Associate of Arts degree in nursing from Huron College; a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from South Dakota State University; and a Master of Health Care Administration from the University of Minnesota. She began her nursing career at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket, and also worked as director of nursing at Avantara (formerly, Huron Nursing Home).

No stranger to HRMC, Allen worked as a nurse manager at Huron’s hospital from 1991 to 1998 before relocating to Redwood Falls, Minnesota. She has led clinical operations at Carris Health Redwood, a critical access hospital that includes a rural health clinic and home care/hospice. As chief clinical officer, Allen provided guidance and leadership to more than 100 employees across more than 13 departments.

“Delivering rural health care requires a group of very dedicated individuals who have a passion and drive to work together to provide compassionate, quality services to the community and people they serve. In my first few weeks here, I have definitely found that to be the case and that is what I remember about my previous time here at HRMC,” explained Allen. “My goal is to support and further their work by fostering our core values of being accessible, helpful and knowledgeable.

Allen and her husband, Toby who is also originally from Huron, have two grown children and two grandchildren, who all live in Redwood Falls. Allen enjoys spending time with family, football Sundays and following Chicago Cubs’ baseball. She likes to cook, not bake, make fairy gardens with her granddaughter, fish and read.
