May 28, 2020 08:52AM ● By MED Magazine

The Suzanne Jacobson Memorial Fund Committee has designated June 1-5, 2020 as Yellow Rose Week in northeastern South Dakota. Yellow Rose Week is the primary means of financing the Suzanne Jacobson Memorial Fund (SJMF), a service of the Prairie Lakes Healthcare Foundation. The SJMF provides grants to people within our region who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses and are in need of financial assistance due to a medical crisis.

Since its inception in 1999, the SJMF has provided approximately $382,538.00 through 762 grants.

Suzanne Jacobson spent her adult life as a physician’s assistant positively impacting the lives of many through her care and professionalism. She lost a battle with cancer in 1998. Her family and friends established this fund to honor her memory.

Applications are confidentially reviewed by a local committee. Grants provide assistance with the cost of medications, transportation, rent, utilities, and groceries.

‘With a diagnosis of esophageal cancer, I went through chemo and radiation. This eradicated the tumor. With the removal of my esophagus, I am cancer free. Thank you so much for your kindness and help through this difficult time. It helped so much. -2018 SJMF grant recipient
