Black Hills Surgical Hospital has been recognized as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics by the Women’s Choice Award®. The award also signifies that Black Hills Surgical Hospital is in the top 1% of 4,910 U.S. hospitals offering orthopedic and spine services.
To be considered for the award, a hospital must have arthroscopy, joint replacement and spine surgery orthopedic services available to patients, onsite physical therapy, and an MRI in order to qualify. This distinction recognizes excellence in orthopedics based on robust criteria that consider patient satisfaction and clinical excellence.
In a national survey conducted by the Women’s Choice Award, orthopedic patients identified the following key priorities when choosing a hospital for orthopedics:
● Single source for orthopedic services, including spine care
● Solid patient safety record
● High recommendation ratings
The methodology used to select Black Hills Surgical Hospital as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics is unique in that it uses the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results, which spotlight excellence in healthcare, along with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences. Through HCAHPS, 92% of patients reported “Yes, they would definitely recommend the hospital” – a full 20 percentage points higher than the national average. BHSH scored 94% on HCAHPS Recovery Information, denoting patients felt they were given proper information on what to do during their recovery, again, above the national average of 87%. Award recipients are also measured on their incidence of surgical complications and infections, placing a high priority on patient safety.
