Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services held a free Community Health Fair on Tuesday, October 8th. Thank you to everyone that attended the event and who helped make the Health Fair a success!
There were 123 attendees at the Health Fair. Many free health screenings were offered which included: cholesterol lab panel, blood pressure screening, blood sugar testing, vision screening, skin cancer screening, child speech and language development screening, BMI (body mass index), and flu shots. Out of those screenings, 68 flu shots were given, 15 skin cancer screens were done, and 45 participants had their blood drawn for the free lab tests.
There were various medical professionals available during the event to discuss the following education topics: therapy / rehabilitation, foot care, diabetes education, public health, wound care, cardiac rehab, healthcare power of attorney, living will, and long term care services.
Attendees enjoyed receiving 5 minute chair massages from Thany Miller, massage therapist at Viborg Chiropractic and Parker Chiropractic; getting their hands dipped in paraffin hand wax, and enjoyed making fruit and veggie kabobs. Kids loved seeing the animals that the Sioux Falls Great Plains Zoo brought on their Zoomobile, and had a great time getting their faces painted and doing craft activities.
Congratulations to the following for being the door prize winners: Burke Hauger (kid’s bike), Max Husman (kid’s FitBit), and Janelle Brockmueller (adult FitBit).
We look forward to having this be an annual event for the community, and thank everyone for supporting Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services!
