Visions Therapy Center Launches Athletic Edge Academy

May 01, 2019 02:19PM ● By Alyssa McGinnis

Visions Therapy Center is introducing the Athletic Edge Academy to help optimize sports performance for area athletes.

As the first program of its kind in the region, Visions Therapy Center is bringing the same vision training approach used by some of the world’s top athletes to anyone wanting to improve competitiveness.

“There are several sports training programs out there right now, but none of them focus on the impact of vision in sports,” said Dr. Ashley Gentrup, optometrist and sports vision specialist at Visions Eye Care + Therapy Center.  “That’s where Athletic Edge Academy comes in. With proper vision training, athletes can gain an edge on and off the playing field.”

The focus of Athletic Edge Academy is the link between vision and sports performance. Doctors estimate that up to 80% of perceptual input in sports comes from the eyes. By properly training the eyes and brain to work better together, this science can lead to peak levels of performance.

“If you break down any play in any sport, it comes down to this – see it, process it, decide, and react,” said Dr. Gentrup. “If your brain is trained to work through that process quicker and more accurately, you make better decisions that lead to better results.”

Athletic Edge Academy stresses eye tracking, eye focusing, peripheral awareness, depth perception and eye-hand coordination in an individualized program. For more information about the program, contact Visions Therapy Center at 605-271-7100.
