Brock Sanderson, RN, BSN in the intensive care unit at Regional Health Rapid City Hospital, has been recognized with the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses across the United States who go above and beyond for their patients and community. Sanderson was nominated by a patient’s family member who recognized his ability to comfort the patient and his family, educate them on the patient’s care plan, and care for the whole family – not just the patient.
“Brock was so friendly from the start and made my dad smile the first day he cared for him. The teaching he did with both of my parents was so thorough and non-intimidating. We attribute much of dad’s miracle recovery to Brock. He holds a very special place in our hearts.”
The DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses recognizes those who display dedication to the health and wellness of their patients. The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” The DAISY Award continues to recognize and celebrate the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and their families every day.
