Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City has been recognized among the nation's best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report as a high performing medical facility for colon cancer surgery.

Mercy's colon cancer surgery score is based on multiple data categories, including patient outcomes, volume, nurse staffing and readmission prevention.  These rankings – determined by reputation and outcomes data, including survival and safety – provide the facts patients and families need to choose their care with confidence.

U.S. News & World Report evaluated thousands of hospitals to produce its respected report of the nation's best. Since 1990, U.S. News & World Report's best hospitals list has served as a respected resource for identifying quality healthcare providers. The rankings highlight medical centers that excel in high-risk inpatient care and complex procedures.

"Mercy Medical Center is very proud to have been recognized with this honor," said Dr. Lawrence Volz, M.D. FACS and Chief Medical Officer.  "This recognition is reflective of the exceptional care our staff provides to our patients.  We have worked diligently to improve the care we provide from our nursing staff, OR personnel, physician partners and numerous other care givers that make up this phenomenal team.  We will continue to strive to provide cutting edge care through innovative perioperative care and the latest in surgical technology."
