Adam Drake, a registered nurse at Regional Health Rapid City Hospital, has been recognized with the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses across the United States who go above and beyond for their patients and community. Drake was nominated by a patient’s daughter for his kindness, compassion and care.

“My dad was admitted to surgical ICU after undergoing a quintuple bypass open-heart surgery. Adam was one of the many wonderful caregivers that my father had in his eight-day stay.  Adam stands out however. Adam never made us feel like we were in the way; he always took the time to address our questions and needs. Adam showed extreme amounts of compassion and knowledge. He was always very trustworthy and kind,” the patient’s daughter wrote. “Adam was our rock during this time of need.”

The DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses recognizes those who display dedication to the health and wellness of their patients. The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” The DAISY Award continues to recognize and celebrate the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and their families every day.

Nurses at Regional Health Rapid City Market are selected 12 times a year for this recognition. To nominate a Regional Health nurse for the DAISY Award, please visit
