Mercy Nurses Achieve Medical-Surgical Board Certification

Alicia Held, MSN, Surgical Unit Nurse Manage, and Kari Kirchmeier, MSN, Clinical Nurse Educator at Mercy Medical Center have earned RN-BC certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Held and Kurchmeier join the ranks of more than 27,500 nurses who have earned board certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing, the most popular designation offered by the ANCC. Certification is an important credential that attests to the achievement of specialty knowledge beyond basic nursing preparation and is evidence of clinical expertise and leadership in nursing practice in acute care setting for the adult patient population. In includes a focus on nursing theory, research, and individualized care planning. 

RN-BC status is granted for five years and is renewed through validation of 75 hours of continuing education or re-examination.
