More than 400 influential women and men in the Sioux Falls community who are committed to fighting heart disease and stroke heard from survivors, experts and committed volunteers who serve on the front lines of the battle against heart disease as part of the annual Go Red for Women Luncheon in Sioux Falls.

After a welcome from American Heart Association Midwest Affiliate Board Member, Dr. Tom Stys of Sanford Heath, guests had the opportunity to socialize with others who care about heart disease and stroke.

Attendees were inspired by keynote speaker Dee Dee Raap, who will issue her challenge to women to “Follow Their Heart.” They also heard from local survivors and participants in the 2013-2014 Go Red Challenge, who shared their life-changing progress towards a heart-healthy lifestyle.

As part of the Go Red Executive Leadership Team, MED's Steffanie Liston-Holtrop was in attendance at this year's event.

"Heart disease is close to my heart as my grandpa is in need of another heart surgery.  If it wasn’t for great organization like the American Heart Association we wouldn’t be developing the kind of new research that is happening," said Liston-Holtrop. "I feel priveleged to work with so many amazing women leaders for such a great cause."

The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women helps fund cutting-edge research, conducts lifesaving public and professional educational programs and advocates the for protection of women’s heart health.

The event took place on February 21st at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
