Avera Queen Of Peace  has been recognized by The Joint Commission as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for 2012.  The Top Performer hospitals were formally announced on October 30, 2013, when The Joint Commission published its Improving America’s Hospitals annual report.  According to Clark, “Avera Queen of Peace is the only hospital in South Dakota to be recognized as a top performer by The Joint Commission.  We were recognized for the following measure set(s):  Pneumonia and Surgical Care.”

According to a letter from Mark Chassin, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Joint Commission, “This year 1,099 hospitals are being recognized, representing the top 33% of all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting accountability measure performance data for 2012.  This achievement demonstrates a commitment to assuring that evidence-based interventions are delivered in the right way and at the right time, because it’s the right thing to do for patients.”

Clark commented that his entire staff is recognized for this achievement.  He also noted that Brenda Olson, Director of Quality-Risk Management, and Monica Meyers, Analyst Specialist, Quality-Risk Management, led the efforts on behalf of Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.  Clark stated, “On behalf of the Board of Directors, Presentation and Benedictine Sisters who sponsor our hospital, and all of my associates, I extend my thanks to the Quality‑Risk Management Team, as well as all Avera Queen of Peace associates for their dedication to ongoing quality improvement.”
