John Berdahl, MD, Ophthalmology
Vance Thompson Vision, Sioux FallsDr. John Berdahl specializes in advanced Cataract, Corneal and Glaucoma Surgery, in addition to Refractive Surgery to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. He earned his medical doctorate, graduating with honors from Mayo Medical School in Rochester, MN and finished his internship at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ.
Dr. Berdahl completed ophthalmology residency at Duke University where his published work, research, teaching and care of patients brought him many honors including best resident and national recognition as first place winner of the Resident Writers Award. Dr. Berdahl pursued additional advanced surgical training at the most coveted cornea and glaucoma fellowship in the country at Minnesota Eye Consultants. As a fellow he received the Claes Dohlman Award from Harvard University, which is given to the top cornea fellow in the country.
Originally from Hills, Minnesoat, Dr. Berahl now lives in Sioux Falls with his wife Tamme and young son Tommy, and daughter Anabel.
Paul Amundson, MD, Family Medicine

Dr. Paul Amundson began employment with DAKOTACARE in 2007 as its Medical Director after fifteen years as a family physician in private practice in Sioux Falls. Originally from Indiana, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of South Dakota and received his MD degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1989, then moved back to South Dakota to complete his family practice residency and has resided here ever since. He is board certified in family practice and serves as a clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Sanford School of Medicine @ USD. Paul is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, South Dakota Academy of Family Physicians, National Academy of Managed Care Physicians, American Medical Association and the South Dakota State Medical Association.
Paul travels annually to Nicaragua for volunteer short-term medical mission work and was honored as the 2010 recipient of the SDSMA Community Service Award. He is married to Dr. Alison Tendler and has three sons, with whom he enjoys numerous outdoor activities such as biking/running, golf and upland game hunting.
Bradly Randall, MD, Forensic Pathology

As a part of his practice, in addition to serving at the Minnehaha County Coroner (Sioux Falls, SD), Dr. Randall has provided forensic pathology services for the eastern half of South Dakota northwestern Iowa, southwestern Minnesota, and northeastern Nebraska. He is the owner of Dakota Forensic Consulting and a Professor of Pathology at USDSM.
Patty Peters, MD, Family Medicine

The life in a small town influenced her choice of practice so that she became a family physician and has practiced at Avera Medical Group McGreevy Clinic since 1983. She is also co-medical director there. Another area of focus is Functional Medicine. She is the medical director at the Avera Medical Group Women's Midlife Care clinic. Over the years she has cared for many women in all stages of their lives along with men and children.
Dr. Peters is married to Scott and they have 3 daughters who are adding to the family with husbands and grandchildren. Patty keeps busy with teaching medical students, doing projects for Avera Health, going on medical mission trips to Haiti and Central America, and volunteering at her church.
James Young DO, Dermatology

Young, DO, FAOCD, graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Chicago, Illinois; with his internship being completed at Darnell Army Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas. His family medicine and dermatology residencies were completed at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He is board certified in both general practice and dermatology.Prior to coming to Yankton in 1998, Dr. Young was in the United States Army serving as Brigade Surgeon, 2nd Brigade, Second Armored Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
Dr. Young currently serves as the Clinic’s Board President. He is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Sanford School of Medicine of The University of South Dakota; as well as a Fellow, Fellow of Distinction, and Past President of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology. He currently is a member of the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology
Dr. Young is strong in his faith and enjoys improving the lives of others by participating on medical missions. His interests include travel, reading, and movies. He and his wife, Bonnie, have two adult children, Ethan (24) and Elizabeth (22).
Luis A. Rojas, MD, Gynecologic Oncology

Dr. Luis Rojas grew up in the Dominican Republic. He attended and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Medical School of Universidad Nacional Pedro Henrriquez Ureña. He completed his residency at Temple University in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the city of Philadelphia. Later he completed his fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio. Dr. Rojas then moved to Sioux Falls SD where he has been practicing Gynecologic Oncology at the Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center. Currently he is Clinical Associate Professor at the USD Sanford School of Medicine OBGYN department. He serves as the Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center. Dr. Rojas is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and a Board Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Gynecologic Oncology.

Dr. Heinemann served as a clinical associate professor at Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota in 1993. He currently is a chief medical officer for Sanford Health Network and Sanford Clinic.
Dr. Jennifer Nelson, DO, Family Medicine

Her certifications include: ATLS, PALS, and ACLS with special interests in preventative care for all ages, pediatrics and women's care, travel medicine, and medical missions.
Dr. Tim Ridgway, MD, Gastroenterology

Dr. Tim Ridgway is a native of Ravinia, South Dakota and a graduate of Augustana. He received his MD from the University of South Dakota and did a transitional Internship at McKennan Hospital (now Avera McKennan) following his residency and fellowship training in gastroenterology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.
Dr. Ridgway served as Clinical Coordinator of the Yankton Ambulatory Program at the Sanford School of Medicine and as Director of Nutrition Support Services at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. He is currently Dean of Clinical Faculty at USD Sanford School of Medicine. He received the Outstanding Achievement Award in Internal Medicine from the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine and is an inductee into Alpha Omega Alpha. He and his wife Mary Beth have three children.
Dr. Kelly Steffen, DO, Cardiology

Dr. Kelly Steffen is a cardiologist with the Sanford Cardiovascular Institute. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of South Dakota and received her Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. She stayed in Kansas City to complete her internal medicine residency and cardiovascular disease fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She is ABIM board certified in internal medicine and cardiology and is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota. She enjoys practicing invasive and noninvasive cardiology, as well as special interest in cardiac imaging to include echocardiogram, nuclear medicine, CT coronary angiography and vascular ultrasound. She is originally from Aberdeen, but now calls Sioux Falls home. She and her husband, Patrick, have three children, Cohen, Finnian, and Alodie.
