As a pioneer in refractive and cataract surgery, Vance Thompson, MD, founder of Vance Thompson Vision, continually seeks new ways to advance the art and science of ophthalmic surgery. This April, Dr. Thompson will take another step forward in his commitment to unparalleled patient care as president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).

Dr. Thompson has been a member of ASCRS for over 35 years and is the current vice president/president elect, also serving as an advisor on the ASCRS Refractive Surgery Clinical Committee. Over the years he has been an ASCRS presenter and webinar host for a variety of clinical education topics. He will officially become president of the society during this year’s annual meeting in Boston, April 5-8.

In addition to being a world leader in laser and implant surgeries, Dr. Thompson is Founder of Vance Thompson Vision, with clinics in South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana and Nebraska. His specialized expertise and extensive surgical knowledge uniquely qualify him to collaborate and lead teams of surgeons and researchers across the globe. His role as professor of ophthalmology at the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota and his passion for teaching current and future surgeons embody the transformative spirit of ASCRS and its goal of empowering refractive and cataract surgeons through education, advocacy and philanthropy.
