Survey Reveals Satisfaction Of Hospital Volunteers

The results are in, and the message is clear: Columbus Community Hospital volunteers love their work.

The hospital recently conducted a formal survey with Press Ganey to learn how it can best support its volunteers. The results indicated that CCH scored in the 99th percentile of all hospitals, in terms of how happy volunteers are with their experience here. More than 110 adult volunteers and VolunTEENs participated in the 2023 survey.

All the volunteers surveyed agreed on three main points: They like the work they do, they find their volunteer work meaningful and they would recommend the hospital as a good place to volunteer.

"Our volunteers are the backbone of our hospital," said Amy Blaser, vice president of physician relations and business development. "Their overall experiences and feedback are incredibly important to us. Volunteers provide invaluable support and assistance to our health care team, as well as patients and visitors. The presence of a caring volunteer can instill a sense of comfort and reassurance, leading to improved patient satisfaction and overall well-being. Volunteers are worth their weight in gold."

In the survey:

  *   99% of respondents said they were a satisfied volunteer.
  *   99% of respondents said they feel CCH treats volunteers with respect.
  *   98% of respondents said their volunteering job is a rewarding part of their life.
  *   97% of respondents said their volunteer work gives them a feeling of accomplishment.

"We are grateful for the feedback provided by our volunteers," said Angie Ramaekers, director of volunteer & guest services for the hospital. "Data collected through the survey helps us understand what parts of the volunteer experience are most meaningful. The data also allows us the opportunity to learn where we can grow to create a better volunteer experience."

Ramaekers said she will share the results of the survey with the volunteers and involve them in conversations that impact the future of the program.

The hospital is always looking for committed adults and teenagers (14 and older) to volunteer in different departments. If you or someone you know is interested in exploring the available volunteer opportunities, please contact Angie Ramaekers at 402-562-3365 or visit columbushosp.org.
