Hospital Offers Free Event On Recognizing Drug Impairment In The Workplace

Substance abusers are five times more likely than non-abusers to injure themselves or others in the workplace. According to the American Council for Drug Education, drug abusers are also 10 times more likely to miss work, 33% less productive and five times more likely to file a worker’s comp claim, and they are responsible for 40% of all industrial fatalities.

Columbus Community Hospital is offering a free Lunch & Learn on recognizing drug impairment in the workplace that will feature Ric Voelker, senior trainer, industrial hygiene specialist and consultant at the Nebraska Safety Council.

The hospital’s Occupational Health Services department will host the event from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in the Platte room of the first-floor conference center.

Join Voelker to learn about policy, procedure and regulations under both the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT).

Attendees must register for the event by Friday, April 26. For more information or to register, contact Ileana Jarecki at 402-562-4490 or imjarecki@columbushosp.org.
