Columbus Psychiatry Clinic Receives Outstanding Partnership Award

Columbus Psychiatry Clinic is proud to have recently received the Outstanding Partnership Award from the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry.

Every year, the department awards individuals, teams or institutions that demonstrate inspiring collaboration in service of the department’s mission and community. This award is given every year to individuals or groups whose efforts have strengthened the clinical partnership efforts of the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and Nebraska Medical Center.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude to have our clinic be selected to receive this year’s Outstanding Partnership Award,” said Jenni Buggi, practice manager for the clinic. “It is an honor to have the hard work of our clinic recognized by the University of Nebraska Medical Center. This accomplishment is a celebration of each of our team members’ contributions through their dedication, teamwork and commitment to the patients and families that we serve.”

Last fall, Columbus Community Hospital and Columbus Psychiatry Clinic announced their partnership with UNMC. The outpatient clinic now serves as the primary teaching location for fourth-year psychiatry residents at UNMC, under the direct supervision of Dr. Venkata Kolli.

“Dr. Venkata Kolli has been incredibly gracious while building this partnership and prioritizing residency education,” said Marley Doyle, MD, director of the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN). “Our residents have benefitted greatly from their experiences, and we look forward to more years to come!”

This partnership provides many benefits for the hospital and community. A third doctor in the clinic helps increase mental health access and lower health disparities. The program also helps the hospital train the next generation of psychiatrists, which ensures access to high-quality care, close to home.

“It’s an honor to receive the Outstanding Partnership Award,” said Dr. Kolli. “UNMC and Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN) are excellent organizations to partner with; their expertise is invaluable in delivering and sustaining mental health services in our community. I am amazed and humbled at how our team at Columbus has managed to rise to the challenge, and accomplish what it has managed in a mere few months of partnering with UNMC. This partnership will help us improve the behavioral health workforce in our community and across rural Nebraska.”

Kolli continued to share how incredibly proud he is of the organization and his colleagues, and wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone who made the partnership happen.
