Avera Flandreau Hospital and Avera Medical Group Flandreau recently celebrated the grand opening of their new facility, the culmination of a two-year, $7.6 million new construction and renovation project.
Hospital officials say the new facility was designed to maximize patient privacy, enhance space for outpatient care, provide space for new services and technology, and allow for more efficient operations.
New construction on the northwest side of the facility includes a new clinic with 12 exam rooms, two procedure rooms, an outreach physician clinic, private registration and waiting areas, and a new laboratory. Also newly constructed were administrative and business offices, diagnostic imaging, outpatient services (including CT and bone-density scanners) and a new emergency department with two state-of-the-art trauma rooms and a more accessible entrance.
Renovation of the existing hospital created larger family-friendly rooms, a more “home-like” environment, a new nurse call system, a welcoming nurses station, high-efficiency heating and cooling, new water and electrical services and improved IT systems. The building’s layout is designed to make it easier for patients and visitors to find their way through the building.
A community capital campaign for the project raised more than $445,000 dollars. In addition, this project was made possible through the City of Flandreau’s gifting of the hospital buildings and property to Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in 2011 as well as Avera Flandreau and Avera McKennan savings and financing.
Avera has been a health care partner in Flandreau for two decades.
