Regional Health Conference to Spotlight Breast Cancer Research & Renowned Physician
The public and health care professionals are invited to attend Regional Health-Research & Compliance Conference - start: 04/29/2014 - 12:30 PM with special guest speaker Dennis J. Slamon, M.D., Ph.D. The free conference will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn’s Dakota Ballroom.
Dr. Slamon is an oncologist best known for his work in identifying the HER2/neu oncogene that is amplified in breast cancer patients and the resulting drug, Herceptin, used to treat the cancer. According to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC), Dr. Slamon serves as director of Clinical/Translational Research and as director of the Revlon/UCLA Women's Cancer Research Program at JCCC. He is a professor of medicine, chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology and executive vice chair for research for UCLA's Department of Medicine. He also serves as director of the medical advisory board for the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance, a fundraising organization that promotes advances in colorectal cancer. Dr. Slamon has received many awards for his research. The 2008 Lifetime TV movie, “Living Proof,” is based on Dr. Slamon and his book, “HER-2: The Making of Herceptin, a Revolutionary Treatment for Breast Cancer.”
