The Board of Directors of Liberty Medical Center (LMC) in Chester, Montana, recently approved an agreement with Sanford Health to manage its facilities. LMC facilities include a critical access hospital and rural health clinic and assisted living beds. The management agreement takes effect March 24, 2014.
The agreement states that LMC has contracted with Sanford Health to manage its business
operations. Organization ownership and financial responsibility will remain local with ultimate
decision-making authority for the organization continuing to fall under the LMC governing Board of Directors. As part of the agreement, Sanford Health employee Derek Daly will serve as Chief Executive Officer.
LMC will have access to Sanford resources to better manage and operate the organization, including rural health expertise, policies and procedures, compliance programs and education opportunities for physicians and staff. Further, LMC will have the ability to gain and share best practice knowledge with the entire Sanford Health Network.
“Rural hospitals face many challenges, and this relationship with Sanford Health will assist us in our goal to maintain a long-term, strong future so we can continue to provide quality health care to over 3,000 people in the region,” said Kirsten Kammerzell, LMC Board Chair.
Sanford Health has a demonstrated history of supporting rural communities in their efforts to
continue to provide quality health care despite their unique challenges. Sanford offers several levels of relationships with hospitals ranging from associate, managed, leased and fully integrated status. This is Sanford Health’s first management agreement in the state of Montana.
“Sanford Health is honored to be the selected partner of LMC. As the largest rural, not-for-profit health care system in the nation, we look forward to sharing our expertise and dedicated rural resources with LMC. This relationship is representative of the value that Sanford Health provides as part of the Strategic Alliance with Benefis Health System and other like-minded organizations,“ said Rick Giesel, president, Sanford Health Network.
