Matthew Christiansen, PhD, Joins Avera Medical Group Family Medicine

Avera Queen of Peace Hospital is pleased to announce that Matthew D. Christiansen, PhD, a Clinical Psychologist, has joined Avera Medical Group. He has established his practice at Avera Medical Group Family Medicine located in the Avera Medical Plaza, 2200 North Kimball, Mitchell.
Dr. Christiansen specializes in providing high quality individual, family, and couple’s counseling with extensive experience in counseling children. He has more than 10 years of experience working in community mental health, group practice, and hospital based clinics. Dr. Christiansen will be seeing patients at Avera Medical Group Family Medicine, 2200 North Kimball, Suite 400, phone 996-7900.
Dr. Christiansen received his Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Weber State University in Ogden, UT, and his Masters in General/Experimental Psychology from Idaho State University. He earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Dakota and served a Psychology Internship at Wasatch Mental Health in Provo, UT. He completed a Psychology Residency at Dakota Counseling Institute in Mitchell in 2003 and continued to work as a licensed psychologist at Dakota Counseling until 2007. He worked for three years at the Primary Children’s Center for Counseling, Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT, and returned to Mitchell in 2010 to work as a licensed psychologist at Abbott House. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Dakota Wesleyan University and is a member of the Child Protection Team serving as president in 2013.
